Rescue Me ID: 15-05-18-00661Cali (female)

Corgi Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

W have a beautiful dog, who has been in our lives for 5 years. Having recently lost our dog of 15.5 years, we adopted Cali from the SPCA as she charmed us with her exuberance and interaction. And she was beautiful - a cross between a cattle dog and a corgi, long legs, alert eyes and ears, bushy tail and a spotted red and white coat. She made friends with the neighbor dogs - there is even a video on youtube of her playing tether ball with her friend Poppy. She had a yard to play in, a 'puppy empowerment portal' (doggie door) to get there, trails to hike nearby and clean streets to walk on leash. We have divorced - very amicably - and ... (Read More)have just sold our house and will be moving out in May. We had a friend who had just lost his dog and he graciously took Cali in while we prepped the house. And he fell in love with her. But he lives in the city - in a not so clean section of Oakland. Now, when Cali walks, she is fixated on finding scraps of food on the route. Nearby parks are littered with chicken bones, so rather than playing, she spends her time hunting bones. His house has a studio downstairs where people often come to play music. Her protective nature gets the better of her and she has to spend a lot of time upstairs, cut off from the action downstairs. My ex and I will also be moving to the city. The three of us have done a lot of soul searching and have come to the conclusion that we cannot keep Cali. It is simply not fair to her. She deserves to be in an area where she can run and play and not be distracted by junk on the sidewalk or in the park grass. She is too smart and energetic to be kept cooped up. Cali's good traits: She is beautiful. Folks always say she looks like a fox. She is loyal. She loves the people she knows and follows us all around. She is good on trails and doesn't run off. She is good with other dogs at the beach, on trails, at doggy day care when she goes. She is SMART! One can actually see the wheels turn in her head. She learns tricks in about 30 minutes. She had an opportunity to try out an agility course and mastered 3 activities in an hour! The trainer was impressed. She is active. She loves hiking, the beach, playing ball, and playing tetherball. She LOVES being chased with a toy in her mouth, by dogs or by people. She is protective of her peeps and her territory (the house, yard and car). She is incredibly exuberant when you come home and loves to lick you. No dog is perfect and Cali is no exception. Her protective nature can get the best of her. Once she becomes used to a place (3-6 months), she believes it is her job to protect it from visitors and other dogs. Once she becomes used to someone - usually because they work with her by feeding her and walking her - they are welcomed into the pack. A home with constant coming and going of people for rehearsal is not for her. She gets along well with other dogs on neutral territory and on their turf. She doesn't like them inside her home, although she has friends she doesn't mind hanging with in her yard. She is SUPER SMART! She learns things quickly. With that smartness comes a bit of wllfulness and mischievousness - but that happens when she is bored. When she is bored, she plays games to alleviate that boredom - such as learning how to open trash cans and spilling the contents on the kitchen floor. Or opening the tall cabinet and removing key food items: loaves of bread, a bag of flour, a box of rice. Sometimes she eats these, other times, she just moves them to other areas so that you know she was there. Cali needs a real job. She needs space to be active. She needs to be mentally challenged. She wants nothing more than to please and can be such a very loving dog. She needs an assertive pack, as she is most at ease when there is structure. We are looking for the right person or persons and the right environment for her (Less)

Corgi Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We are assisting the owner in helping to fine the right forever home for her corgi/terrier mix male. He will need to be neutered as part of the rehoming donation. Here is his bio: I have moved to Riverside, and in a place, where there is no yard, to run and play which he likes to do and go outside to do his potty. He likes to go for walks, not friendly with other dogs, until he gets to know them. He is not neutered, yet, he is up to date on shots. I think when he is neutered, he will not be so Macho. He needs a knowlegable dog handler to win his confidence ..He is not use to strangers, He will work out with someone who knows how to make ... (Read More)him mind. so as not to be leery . He is an excellent watch dog. I live in area, where there are a lot of strangers, and he warns everyone, He is not vicious, just protective and he has to approach who ever wants to pet him, and he won't let them touch him until he feels they are friendly. He is very gentle even when to play with him or give him food by hand. like treats, He loves Vita-bone treat, the large plain colored ones. I am not going to just let him go to anyone, I make sure they know dog's behavior, Like Cesar Milan 'Dog Whisperer'.. I am that type of person. I whisper to him and he resonds to a soft voice. Dog's think if you yell or talk loud you are barking too. So if I want him to stop barking , I say shhhhsh and whisper 'no bar'..he knows. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-29-00548Kelly (female)

Corgi    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Male Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Kelly is a 2 year old rather leggy but purebred Pembroke Welsh Corgi who came into rescue when she was purchased from someone who had her for 4 months and needed to 'sell her on CL'. However, the couple didn't realize Corgis shed and have a lot of hair and both the husband and wife turn out to be high allergic to the dog. Corgi Rescue was called and we have an appmt to get Kelly spayed on 5/20 and she will also be microchipped. She is crate trained and needs a corgi/herding dog savvy adoptive home. Because she is high energy, she needs continued obedience training and would probably later excel in agility or herding. We do not place ... (Read More)corgis, because of the herding instinct with families with young toddlers and small fry. We also do not place Corgis with young couples planning a family in a couple of years. Most corgis come into rescue after a couple starts a family and they see their one year old toddler and the dog not hitting it off. Adoption process applies: completion of a pre adopt ap, hmck, contract. 2 week trial period and followup visit if in Southern CA. We do not ship dogs out of state. Adopters in other parts of CA, NV or AZ may apply but they would have to drive to us in the southbay area of Los Angeles County. We would have a rescue colleague in their area do a hmck on our behalf. (Less)

Meet Henry! He is 10 and very loving! Hes loves other dogs and he loves people. He is a lapdog and enjoys being groomed and cared for. The typical house for him would be a house or apartment with other dogs he can play with, or with an older individual who will spoil him. He is a very easy going and can be happy in any situation. We will need to check out the home if interested, only to make sure it is safe and suitable. Also we will need to schedule a meet and greet to make sure their is compatibility. Nothing too extreme. He is current on vaccinations and is licensed.

Corgi Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Wellington's(Wellie's) age is unknown and is approximated at 6-8 years. I adopted Wellie in 2012 from the local animal shelter. He likes to go for walks and when handled firmly is easily controlled around other dogs. He likes to play fetch until he tires out and loves squeaky toys. Wellie is completely house broken and has never destroyed personal property. Overall he would be a great dog in a quiet, loving, single pet environment. Wellie was very fearful and aggressive when I first brought him home but quickly became friendly and comfortable as he realized we meant him no harm. He was an owner surrender and I believe he was severely ... (Read More)neglected as he was full of foxtails. Possibly abused because he flinches and runs when you move to quickly toward him. Although Wellie never warmed up to my old dog who passed 2 years ago, I have tried to give him a home. But, I am a multi dog, multi animal person and have made up my mind that Wellie is just not a good fit for my household. He is dog and small animal aggressive, having killed one of my parrots, a bullfrog and attacked and bit my friends visiting rottweiler! He constantly tries to get at my other birds and pet chicken. Last year I received a great dane puppy as a gift and Wellie has been very aggressive and impatient with him. Since I do not want my now 125 lb 'puppy' to become aggressive and/or turn on him, I have decided to re-home him in a single pet, adult only home where he would be less stressed and much happier. Corgi Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Ginger is a fun loving dog that was intercepted in October from getting dropped of in a high kill shelter. She is loyal, loving, and a true goofball! She currently has been living with our 5 small dogs, a cat, horses & chicken's and does great with everyone (note our biggest dog is 35lb pounds we are not sure of how she'd be with large dominant dogs). Ginger is guessed to be a jack russel/corgi mix as her markings and build look like a corgi but we know she is 1/2 Jack. Ginger does live in a home with a man who she now lives but she is afraid of men at first and will bark at then and hide under furniture. She has done well with older ... (Read More)children & teenage boys we assume she was mistreated by an adult male. Ginger was not potty trained when we got her but now she is potty pad trained as I work long hours and does potty outside when we are home & take her out. With this said we want her adopter to know she will need to be finished potty training if you do not want to use potty pads and our house is tile so initially she may have a few accidents while transitioning. Ideally we would like Ginger to go to a home where she will be loved and adored (as she loves to cuddle, sleep with you, & is extremely loyal. We'd like her to go to a home with either another dog playmate or someone with kids that will run around the yard with her as she does love to play. Ginger is approximately 15lbs and a ball of love and laughter! If you're looking for a dog that is playful yet knows how to cuddle on the couch, is loyal & silly then Ginger is your girl! I have tons of photos so please just email me. A contract will be signed that states if any event that Ginger can not be kept by her adopted family she will be returned to us. Additionally, an adoption contract will be signed & a potential home check may be conducted. References may be requested to ensure Ginger gets the best home possible. We would keep Ginger as we love her dearly but we took her in with the intention of finding her a forever home. (Less)

Avl in Southern CA only. Please take the time to read this bio' so you understand the kind of home he needs. 1. He needs to be in a quiet adult setting with no other pets although he might be okay with a submissive female. 2. He is definitely not a kids dog and needs to be in an environment with no visiting children including grand kids and in a neighborhood where there aren't a lot of children he'd encounter on his walks which he does enjoy. 3. He will only be placed with very dog and corgi savvy adopters and not with young couples who might have children down the line 4. He gets all worked up with outside stimuli like barking dogs or ... (Read More)other dogs he sees on walks as well as people he sees. Its almost as if he 'wants to rush and go for them' but its more out of being insecure then aggressive. 5. He would benefit from a behavioral specialist although he is being evaluated by a dog trainer and given basic obedience training and manners. 6. He loves toys, is not food aggressive, takes treats gently out of his foster mother's hand and is affectionate with his foster mother. He is not destructive. This 3 year old sable and white purebred Pembroke Welsh Corgi neutered male is a rescue from an animal shelter. He had an acute gastritis when he was picked up and in pain. He bit a friend of the finder and so he had to go into quarantine for 10 days. By the time rescue got him, he wasn't eating and a quick trip to the vet with x-rays taken showed the acute gastritis. A barium dosage was given and within a couple of days he was eating again. He had been off his food and was in distress at the shelter. Adoption process; completion of a pre adoption ap, hmck, contract, trial period, and adoption donation of $350. We have invested over $400 in treating his gastritis and kennel cough. We kept him in foster care for a year so he could chill out and get over some of his quirks. Adoption limited to southern CA only. (Less) (Less)

She weighs about 19 lbs. She has a non shedding hair coat so is good for someone who might have allergies. She normally has a thick fluffy coat but we keep her clipped short. She has the most adorable ears. Fergie was originally adopted thru my rescue in 2008 as a young dog. Her owner passed away Jan of 2014 and his mother continued to have the dog stay with her. The mother went into assisted care, so Fergie ... (Read More)came back into our rescue last Oct.. She had glaucoma in her left eye and that eye was removed last Oct. She is avl for adoption to a special person/home. Her owner had set up a medical fund to take care of the eye situation as well as future medical needs. She has also been around cats She is current on her shots, micro chipped and crate trained. She walks nicely on a leash and travels well in a car. Because she is a senior dog and has been in an adult only home with older and elderly people, we are seeking an adult home for her. She is house trained but backed up with pee pads. She is in a foster in the south bay of LA County until adopted and there will be a small re-homing fee plus her medical needs will be covered. She does have a cataract in her right eye and gets vision supplements. She still has sufficient vision to get around and is a love. (Less)

Let me introduce myself. My name is Wally and I just turned 5 years old in May 2014. I am a jack russell and corgi/doxie mix. I have the most beautiful cow like markings and am average to high energy but settle down nicely in a crate and am used to sleeping in a crate at night. I would be fine with children 10 years and up. Email my rescuer and apply to adopt. Meet/greet available in the south bay area of LA County, CA. Adoption process and donation of $100 applies. Wally is due for a visit to the doggie dental hygienist to remove tartar (non anesthesia). PIease Read Before Adopting a Corgi in California
Corgi Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Welsh Corgi comprises two distinct breeds, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, which is the larger of the two, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, which is more common. Welsh Corgis are some of the healthiest herding dogs out there. Pembroke Welsh Corgis are smart, devoted, and obedient dogs. Pembroke Welsh Corgis are great with good children. Corgis are good guard dogs and can become overprotective unless they are thoroughly socialized as puppies. Corgis are active and energetic and need to be taken on long walks. Corgis can adapt well to apartment life with enough daily exercise.
