Rescue Me ID: 15-04-21-00267Andy (male)

Corgi    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This dog is only avl for adoption in CA. Our rescue has been asked to assist with rehoming Andy and his female buddy, Bunny. We have a possible qualified adopter for both dogs pending a meet/greet on 4/25. However, they have another dog and Andy can be somewhat of a bully if he senses another dog is weak or wimpy so the waters haven't been tested yet. If he and the family's other dog don't hit it off, then Andy will be up for adoption. Here is his bio. Andy's bio: Andy is 8 years old and neutered. He is a tri-colored extra long bundle of corgi love! But don̢׉t be fooled by those short legs. He loves walks and is well-behaved on ... (Read More)leash, but he̢׉s especially happy playing fetch with the ball and then nuzzling at your feet when he gets tired out. This is a companion dog that will shadow you around the house and give you his loyal devotion. Andy is a pedigreed Pembroke Corgi sired by a prize-winning mother and father owned by a California breeder. He is neutered, house trained and loves all people, including children. However, he does not get along with all dogs and should be kept on a leash when in a public place or with dogs he does not know. He does guard his food so needs to be fed. He currently lives with 3 cats and a second corgi named Bunny. Bunny is a female 6-year-old tricolor corgi and they would ideally be adopted together. However, he would also enjoy joining a family as the one and only dog or with a dog that is equal to his bullishness. Any adopter will need to let Andy spend time with the existing pets to gauge compatibility. His mom is recovering from a stroke and is unable to care for them. She dearly loves her dogs and is very concerned that they be placed with a loving individual or family. Breed Color : Tri-Color Weight : 35 Health: Very healthy. Personality: Andy is a happy dog. Loves all people. Exercise needs: Moderate. Does best with daily walks. Enjoys playing with the ball. Behavior with Children: He needs an adult home or one with older children. Behavior with other animals: Good with cats and most dogs but not all. He needs to be kept on leash in public or with dogs he does not know. Housetraining: Yes 8 years male neutered (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This curly coated spayed female corgi mix came in to the high kill Lancaster LA County Shelter on 4/18. She looks petrified and who could blame her. She is being held for reclaiming but her owner but if not, she will be avl for direct adoption at the shelter. Call them at (661) 940-4191 to get their address and hours and give the impound #A4819855 to ck her status and get her kennel #. You can visit with her prior to adopting and you must go to the shelter personally to put an interested hold on her. She is spayed so once she is avl, she can go home the same day. Here is the shelter info. I am described as a spayed female, brown Welsh ... (Read More)Corgi - Cardigan mix The shelter thinks I am about 5 years old. I have been at the shelter since Apr 18, 2015. For more information about this animal, call: Los Angeles County Animal Control - Lancaster at (661) 940-4191 Ask for information about animal ID number A4819855 Long read but worth it. Unaltered stray: I don't have a name yet and I'm an approximately 5 year old female welsh corgi mix. I am not yet spayed. I have been at the Lancaster Animal Care Center since April 18, 2015. I will be available on May 7, 2015. You can visit me at my temporary home at L134.Please call the shelter at 661.940.4191 RIGHT AWAY if you are interested in adopting any of the dogs I post. If you are interested in adopting a 'dominant breed' (Pit/Rott./Mastiff/Chow/Sharpei), ask to be transferred to the Lancaster shelter directly to 'request a temperament evaluation' for the purpose of adoption (required prior to adoption on dominant breeds). If you are local adopter (within CA/reasonable distance to come in to adopt), you CAN do this over the phone (you will be an 'IP'/interested party). Here is their policy you can READ the operator should they decline your request (this is directly from THE DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL): 'There ISN'T a requirement that a person physically has to drive to the Lancaster Animal Care Center in order to express interest on an animal or request a temperament assessment. The care center does 'prefer' that the person requesting the temp test be local and have an 'interest' in adopting the dog, but they do not have to be present at the care center to make the request. If you call and they tell you otherwise, i.e. 'you must come in personally' or 'you must commit to a dog prior to an evaluation', please advise them they are VIOLATING LACO's own policy and read to them what I posted above. PLEASE NOTE A NAME, date & time who you SPOKE WITH. Feel free to message me so I can forward incidents, or guide you to the people you need to complain to..... If you request an evaluation and are told this is being submitted: STILL GET A NAME AND WRITE IT DOWN!!!!!! This shelter is a publicly funded County shelter with a high rate of 'strays' and 'owner turn ins' and therefore considered 'high kill'. if you are interested in any dogs I have listed, I urge you to immediately get in touch with the shelter for their adoption procedure. I have seen it too many times where dog's have lost their lives because someone waited just ONE day too long... Adoption fees at this shelter are $120 or less. There might a $20 license fee for LACO residents. All fees include vaccines, micro chip and spay/neuter. Unaltered dogs are released after their spay/neuter, unless they get a waiver due to age or health. The Lancaster, CA shelter is located at 5210 W. Ave. I Lancaster, CA 93536 (661) 940-4191 Hours: Monday - Thursday: 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Closed Holidays Directions: Take the 14 Freeway and exit at Ave. I, Go 3 miles West to shelter.     Wellington's(Wellie's) age is unknown and is approximated at 6-8 years. I adopted Wellie in 2012 from the local animal shelter. He likes to go for walks and when handled firmly is easily controlled around other dogs. He likes to play fetch until he tires out and loves squeaky toys. Wellie is completely house broken and has never destroyed personal property. Overall he would be a great dog in a quiet, loving, single pet environment. Wellie was very fearful and aggressive when I first brought him home but quickly became friendly and comfortable as he realized we meant him no harm. He was an owner surrender and I believe he was severely ... (Read More)neglected as he was full of foxtails. Possibly abused because he flinches and runs when you move to quickly toward him. Although Wellie never warmed up to my old dog who passed 2 years ago, I have tried to give him a home. But, I am a multi dog, multi animal person and have made up my mind that Wellie is just not a good fit for my household. He is dog and small animal aggressive, having killed one of my parrots, a bullfrog and attacked and bit my friends visiting rottweiler! He constantly tries to get at my other birds and pet chicken. Last year I received a great dane puppy as a gift and Wellie has been very aggressive and impatient with him. Since I do not want my now 125 lb 'puppy' to become aggressive and/or turn on him, I have decided to re-home him in a single pet, adult only home where he would be less stressed and much happier. Corgi Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Ginger is a fun loving dog that was intercepted in October from getting dropped of in a high kill shelter. She is loyal, loving, and a true goofball! She currently has been living with our 5 small dogs, a cat, horses & chicken's and does great with everyone (note our biggest dog is 35lb pounds we are not sure of how she'd be with large dominant dogs). Ginger is guessed to be a jack russel/corgi mix as her markings and build look like a corgi but we know she is 1/2 Jack. Ginger does live in a home with a man who she now lives but she is afraid of men at first and will bark at then and hide under furniture. She has done well with older ... (Read More)children & teenage boys we assume she was mistreated by an adult male. Ginger was not potty trained when we got her but now she is potty pad trained as I work long hours and does potty outside when we are home & take her out. With this said we want her adopter to know she will need to be finished potty training if you do not want to use potty pads and our house is tile so initially she may have a few accidents while transitioning. Ideally we would like Ginger to go to a home where she will be loved and adored (as she loves to cuddle, sleep with you, & is extremely loyal. We'd like her to go to a home with either another dog playmate or someone with kids that will run around the yard with her as she does love to play. Ginger is approximately 15lbs and a ball of love and laughter! If you're looking for a dog that is playful yet knows how to cuddle on the couch, is loyal & silly then Ginger is your girl! I have tons of photos so please just email me. A contract will be signed that states if any event that Ginger can not be kept by her adopted family she will be returned to us. Additionally, an adoption contract will be signed & a potential home check may be conducted. References may be requested to ensure Ginger gets the best home possible. We would keep Ginger as we love her dearly but we took her in with the intention of finding her a forever home. (Less)

He would benefit from a behavioral specialist although he is being evaluated by a dog trainer and given basic obedience training and manners. 6. He loves toys, is not food aggressive, takes treats gently out of his foster mother's hand and is affectionate with his foster mother. He is not destructive. This 3 year old sable and white purebred Pembroke Welsh Corgi neutered male is a rescue from an animal shelter. He had an acute gastritis when he was picked up and in pain. He bit a friend of the finder and so he had to go into quarantine for 10 days. By the time rescue got him, he wasn't eating and a quick trip to the vet with x-rays taken showed the acute gastritis. A barium dosage was given and within a couple of days he was eating again. He had been off his food and was in distress at the shelter. Adoption process; completion of a pre adoption ap, hmck, contract, trial period, and adoption donation of $350. We have invested over $400 in treating his gastritis and kennel cough. We kept him in foster care for a year so he could chill out and get over some of his quirks. Adoption limited to southern CA only. (Less) (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Corgi in California
Corgi Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Welsh Corgi comprises two distinct breeds, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, which is the larger of the two, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, which is more common. Welsh Corgis are some of the healthiest herding dogs out there. Pembroke Welsh Corgis are smart, devoted, and obedient dogs. Pembroke Welsh Corgis are great with good children. Corgis are good guard dogs and can become overprotective unless they are thoroughly socialized as puppies. Corgis are active and energetic and need to be taken on long walks. Corgis can adapt well to apartment life with enough daily exercise.
