Rescue Me ID: 13-05-05-00096Millie (female)

Corgi Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Millie is an incredibly sweet and usually submissive girl. I adopted her from a lady on Rescue Me in November 2012. It seems like the 'discipline' her previous owner(s?) resorted to involved hitting because Millie flinches when you raise your hand. She's very well crate trained and seems to enjoy being in it. She also does pretty well on a leash. She is also fairly quiet and very rarely barks. Being that Millie is 5 or 6 years old I expected some unknown baggage but unfortunately that unknown baggage has turned out to be something I do not have the knowledge or time to try to deal with or fix. I simply have not been able to bond with her ... (Read More)like I wanted and have not been able to completely trust her. A very few (2 or 3 times) and random times she feels threatened by some unknown cause and lashes out at my other dog. However, at all other times they are perfectly fine together and will play together on occasion so I am very puzzled. This is why I specified that she isn't good with dogs or children. I have not witnessed her with children so I don't know for certain. The previous owner told me she had two young daughters but I don't know if Millie was kept separate from them or not. Aside from that issue, she is very obedient and extremely treat-motivated. She isn't super active but will certainly play with you when she's in the mood and likes to go on walks. I really hope someone will adopt her who has the time to devote to her in dealing with her issues. And if she's the only dog in the home, then there may not be a ton of 'rehabilitating' necessary. PIease Read Before Adopting a Corgi in Illinois
Corgi Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Welsh Corgi comprises two distinct breeds, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, which is the larger of the two, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, which is more common. Welsh Corgis are some of the healthiest herding dogs out there. Pembroke Welsh Corgis are smart, devoted, and obedient dogs. Pembroke Welsh Corgis are great with good children. Corgis are good guard dogs and can become overprotective unless they are thoroughly socialized as puppies. Corgis are active and energetic and need to be taken on long walks. Corgis can adapt well to apartment life with enough daily exercise.
